Colleen Roberts

Colleen Roberts, Commissioner

Colleen Roberts was elected to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in November of 2014 and sworn into office on January 5, 2015.  Commissioner Roberts serves as the Chair of the Board for 2017.

For the 2017 calendar year, Commissioner Roberts is the Board liaison to the following County departments and/or committees:  County Administration (County Audit Committee and Law Library Advisory Committee), Fairgrounds/Expo (Fair Board), Natural Resources Advisory Committee (NRAC), and Watermaster.

Commissioner Roberts is also the Board liaison to the City Councils of Gold Hill, Rogue River, Shady Cove, and Talent.  In addition, she serves as the Board liaison to the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Inland Rogue Advisory Committee, Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District, National Association of Counties (NACo) (Public Lands Steering Committee), National Park Service, Oregon State University Extension Office, Resource Advisory Councils (RACs), Taylor Grazing Fund, U.S. Forest Service, and is on the Board of the Association of O&C Counties.

Commissioner Roberts is a native of Southern Oregon, born and raised in Klamath Falls and graduated from Rogue River High School. She met Steve, her husband of 40 years, while they were attending Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. After raising her family, Colleen finished her degree 30 years later, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Colleen and her sister founded, owned, and operated a full-service custom bakery (Sensational Sweets) for over 20 years in Eagle Point. Colleen and Steve have three grown sons, with families of their own, including 13 grandchildren.

Commissioner Roberts' vision for the County is a Government that truly is for, of, and by the people.  She agrees with Thomas Jefferson’s statement:  “No government can continue good, but under the control of the people.” He believed that if the people become inattentive, the elected become wolves.  Commissioner Roberts agrees that the voice of the people should be in its rightful place: valued and at the helm. She believes in prosperity, liberty, and freedom; that government should be small, accountable, and transparent; and that our U.S. and State Constitutions are the foundations on which to base all decisions.

"If the people fail to vote, a government will be developed
which is not their government. The whole system of
American Government rests on the ballot box. Unless
citizens perform their duties there, such a system of
government is doomed to failure."
Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the USA.
